About the Event

This activity is also for people new to rock climbing but with already quite some experience in outdoor, hiking and familiar with altitude and exposure! We will be strapping on the harness, the helmet and come down from cliffs of rock with rope and repelling equipment.

This trip has  limited participants  to ensure each person has adequate supervision by the guides and trainers!

PROGRAM

The timing is weather and conditions dependent. Our intention is to start early morning (between 7 and 9am) and finish by 2-4pm)

INCLUDED IN THE FEE 

  • Certified hiking guide leading the way, showing and explaining the natural features and history of the area.
  • All the technical climbing gear necessary for the activity.
  • Max Participants: 8

ROUTE

We start the hike from the Jebel Jais road through some trails and scrambling, down to the start point of the canyon (which is essentially a dry river bed) where we will abseil, hike scramble and pass large boulders.

The adventure will take 5-7 hours (depending on the group speed), with an elevation gain of 4-600m circa. 

The lead guide will set up the ropes and prepare and descent gear to the participants (no need previous experience with this). The participant will then have to descent steep walls until the base of the wall, under the supervision of the guide to then continue the hike.

In Thunder canyon there are 5 abseils:

1. 55 meters 2. 20-25 meters 3. 35 meters 4. 10 meters 5. 30 meters

Total Ascent: 400m

Total Descent: 400m

Distance: 4km

# Abseils: 5

Longest Abseil: 50m

Duration: 4-6 hours

WHAT TO BRING

Any car can reach the start point of the hike (no need 4x4)

Carpool sheet will be discussed for confirmed participants

  1. Backpack
  2. 4 liters of water, minimum
  3. Snacks (oranges, apple, dates, protein bar), electrolytes, sandwiches, nuts
  4. Hiking boots or trainer with good grip sole
  5. Hiking pants, tights, dry fit t-shirt
  6. Sunscreen lotion
  7. Hat and sunglass
  8. Headlight

There is no toilette at the site, therefore make sure you make a stop before arriving to the event.
