Jordan Climbing. Sandstone paradise and Petra hike

OVERVIEW

Climbers from all over the world dream about climbing the sandstone peaks of the Wadi Rum area – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – but few of them have the occasion of transforming that dream into reality. The remarkable historical heritage, a warm climate, off-the-beaten track climbing routes, and extremely hospitable locals are just some of the many features that make Jordan a unique and authentic rock-climbing destination. Prepare to dive into the unknown for a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the precious support and competence of the Bedouins of Wadi Rum – your guides for the trip – who have decade-long history and expertise in climbing in the country.

FOR WHO IS THIS

This trip is for best for people with at least a basic outdoor experience. The trip is led by a rock climbing instructor which will show you the sites and can help you setting up top ropes. 

If you are an experience rock climbing, still this trip is for you and you can enjoy leading your routes!

The places we will visit are sport climbing sites, with chances to practice your trad climbing skills.

If you don't have a rock climbing experience, you can still join us and give it a try, supervised by the instructor.

There will be also various other activities for non-climbers, such as the Petra Hike but also jeep tours, horse rididing or camel riding and hiking in Wadi Rum (extra small costs apply for these).

PROGRAM

Day 1 - Sat 3 Feb - Arrival in Jordan and direct to climbing 

The first day we will be leaving Abu Dhabi at 5am to arrive in Aqaba at 8h00 am. From there we shall get the vehicles ready and set off directly to Wadi Rum. Aiming to reach by late morening for a first warmup climbing session in the afternoon and get then accommodation into our Bedouin camp with Omar, our local Bedouin guide, where a typical Jordanian dinner will be waiting for us.

Day 2 and 3 - Sun 4 & Mon 5 Feb - Full days of climbing

They will be days fully dedicated to sport climbing in different locations of Wadi Rum, supervised by our certified instructor and accompanied by our local guide Omar. The day starts with a proper breakfast at the camp, to then set off for the climbing walls and come back at evening for a chilled camp and dinner.

Day 4 - Tue 2 Dec - Visit Petra 

We will leave the camp early morning direction Petra, which is a 3 hours drive. We will visit the Petra valley with a 2-3 hours hike down to the Monastery and back. Then we drive back towards Aqaba for a last night chilled in night vibes of Aqaba.

Day 4 - Wed 3 Dec - Return to UAE 

Breakfast and return back to Aqaba airpot for our fligt back to Abu Dhabi.

LOGISTICS

Accomodation - Bedouin Camp in Wadi Rum desert

Your basecamp for the trip will be the Bedouin Outdoors Camp - a small family camp inside the Wadi Rum protected area, just ca 5km from the Wadi Rum village. The camp is eco-friendly: the water is brought directly from the Lawrence Spring and the food is cooked by the local Bedouins. 

The accomodation is in private tents shared by two people, with twin beds. Central camp toilette with hot showers.

There is a central area at the camp where the meals are served, meeting place, shisha and all day refreshments.

Flights

Flight booking and price is not included in the event and needs to be arranged by the participants.

Wizz Air, Abu Dhabi Aqaba 5:20-8h00 on 3 Feb, Aqaba/Abu Dhabi 09:15-13:05 on 7 Dec.

We reccomed these flights but you are free to book something else, as long as you are at the meeting point before we arrive and leave after our last day.
